farewell event in Tokyo

Yes dear readers, enriching my exchange year at the University of Tokyo came to an end and the earth shook it.

In the week before my departure, there occurred the two earthquakes (Richter) magnitude 6.9 with epicenter about 100 km from Tokyo. This amount could cause major destruction in a developing country, but Japanese engineers will have long been the risk and having a fairly earthquake-resistant infrastructure with early warning systems developed.
in my room on the sixth floor began to vibrate the windows, then a noticeable vibration, which caused too much noise by the movement of the reinforced concrete walls and furniture. Although the movement was small, I had to lose the feeling the ground under their feet, bobbing about like a boat. Finally, there were a jolt so strong that the olive oil bottle fell over! (See picture below)

In Kanto (Tokyo region) meet four Lithospärenplatten. Model one imagines that the Pacific plate under the Eurasian plate shifts, but this relative motion is not so smooth, but is hampered by large friction. Only when sufficient energy has accumulated, the friction can be overcome and the earth moves a few millimeters (in some turmoil, even a few meters), which happens suddenly and can cause an earthquake. Due to estimates of the pent-up energy and statistical studies in Kanto region offers a huge earthquake in the next 30 years. For this, special training of the population and forecasts made attempts. At the same time also met some summer typhoons (hurricanes) in the south of Japan. And one marvels at how well the Japanese with their natural hazards . Deal

So I left the hot and humid Tokyo by train to Shimonoseki (West Japan), then by ferry to Busan (South Korea) and am now in Seoul. But before that really sing karaoke again!
